Recalling an old Finnish saying: “It is not the mirror’s fault if the face is crooked” (“Ei ole peilin vika, jos naama on vino”). This, in turn, has been attributed to an 1836 Russian play, The Inspector. Thank you lilli m for explaining all of this!
