Such a cute little squab ...
If a suicidal man, having stabbed himself and slit his wrists, can kill 11 rail commuters through apparent accident or negligence, what
could a group of committed terrorists do on purpose? I take the BART train
to San Francisco every weekday, traveling underneath San Francisco Bay for
four minutes. It is not uncommon to encounter passengers bound for San
Francisco Airport with very large bags. The chance for mayhem is staggering.
The harrowing cover story of the Jan./Feb. Atlantic magazine consists of
fictional scenarios of future terror attacks, including strikes against
casinos, malls and transit lines. It contains extensive footnotes to
government reports and other research documenting these threats.
And still we enjoy
life, and go about our business, as we should.
