Amazoning is the new Googling, at least among the so-called sophisticates who find themselves in the pages of books, either as characters or references.
Background: Amazon yesterday started allowing full-text search of more than a hundred thousand of its books. (Amazon explains.)
Now, nearly every reporter in my newsroom confesses to have started ego-surfing Amazon, running searches on their names to see if they appear in any books.
I was happy to see my past writing cited in a couple of books, albeit obscure ones.
If you want to ego-surf yourself on Amazon, just run your name through the main search box on the Amazon home page. Put it inside quote marks "like this" for a faster, more accurate search. |
